Want to offer your services as a beta? Well, my friend, that makes you awesome, and we writers adore you for your contributions.
BETA READERS, please read the following before posting:
❋ Please be fluent in English and have a firm grasp on grammar and mechanics.
❋ Please do your best to have your beta finished within the timeframe you have set. If you cannot do this, please let your writers know ASAP so they can find someone else.
❋ If you become busy or your plate is full and you are no longer available to beta, please change your subject heading unavailable. When you are able to take requests again, please change your subject heading accordingly. Additionally, if you only want to make yourself available for pinch-hitting*, then title your subject heading as such.
❋ Beta Reading Styles: 1) Essentials Only – this is strictly the necessities: grammar, spelling, canon, characterisation, and plot; 2) Comprehensive Critique – this focusses on all the necessities, as well as critiquing the work (providing advice and opinions).
HOW TO POST (beta readers):
1) Create your own thread and title it with your name and availability. Later, if you are unavailable for beta-ing or just want to offer your services as a pinch-hitter, just rename your subject heading accordingly.
2) Fill out the following sheet to give the writers a good indication of how and what you beta:
3) Have your potential writers fill out a sheet for you, to help you decide whether you'd like to beta for them or not.
WRITERS, please read the following before contacting a beta:
❋ Please do not create your own thread looking for a beta. This particular board advertises the availability of beta readers. Simply browse through the threads and reply to the beta reader who is best for you and your specific writing needs.
❋ Please contact the beta you want by the means he or she provides (fill out the sheet appropriately).
❋ Please be patient and courteous if the beta you contact turns you down. Remember that he or she is busy too and there are some genres and ratings that people are uncomfortable with.
*Pinch-hitting is the act of replacing another if s/he has to unexpectedly drop out (aka a replacement, stand-in, or substitute). A beta pinch-hitter is a beta who replaces the original beta or fills in at the last moment.
